My journey began during a chance meeting with an EmployAbility Job Coach at a job fair in the Fairways Hotel Dundalk.
I was 59 years old and had been through a long period of ill health. Before this, I had spent several years in the tourist industry as a qualified National Tour Director. However, due to my health issues, I could no longer carry out my previous role. At my wit's end, after a prolonged recovery period, I decided to get back out there and see if there was anything suitable to my limited abilities. After a lot of knockbacks, I attended the jobs fair in Dundalk. And was lucky to come upon the EmployAbility Service Louth stand, where I met an excellent Job Coach.
To cut a long story short, the Job Coach was very attentive and was able to source several potential positions to suit my circumstances. He made me feel good about myself and, in an understated way, started to work on my confidence. He had me believing in myself again. Within a few months, he had secured employment for me through a community employment scheme in the tourist office and heritage center in Carlingford, where I live.
He then helped and assisted me in achieving paid work in the Tourist Industry and balancing my CE responsibilities. The Job Coach has been instrumental in helping me balance the two roles. He helps resolve issues before they become problems. He often offered advice and kept me on the "straight and narrow."
To conclude, my experience with EmployAbility Service Louth has been great and very beneficial to me and has helped me get back on an even keel in my life.
